Public Etiquette

  • Please do not occupy seats specifically designated for the elderly and disabled
  • As a courtesy to others, switch your mobile phone to vibration or silent mode before getting on the train. And please talk quietly over the phone when receiving a call.
  • When listening to music, adjust the volume so that you don’t bother others.
  • Do not run or speak loudly on the train.
  • When the train is crowded, please do not read the newspaper or cross your legs.
  • Purchase the correct subway pass.
  • Please restrain from using the elevator for the elderly and disabled.

Safety precautions

  • Wait for the next train if the doors have started to close.
  • When on the escalator, hold on the handrails and do not run or play games.
  • Do not touch or lean on the doors to avoid getting hurt.
  • Watch your feet as you step over the gap between the train and the platform edge so that you do not fall through.

Public Order

  • Stand in two lines of left and right of the doors when waiting for the train.
  • Wait for passengers to get off before getting on the train.
  • Please do not walk or run when riding the escalator for your safety.

Controlling illegal Activities

  • It is illegal to post unauthorized materials, beg, solicit products, or conduct religious activities on the train and in the station.
    If you have witnessed such illegal activities, please report to the nearest station office to help maintain a bright, clean and orderly subway environment.

Lost & Found Information

  • Please be sure to take all your belongings with you when you get off the train, but if you lose anything, please contact the SMRT Lost & Found Center.

Using Passes and Transit Cards

  • 1. Insert your subway pass or tag your transit card on the right of the gate before entering.
  • 2. Make sure you tag the transit card within the designated area on the fare gate machine to deduct the fare before entering.

    Postpaid Cards(Credit cards) are reset to "0" at the beginning of each month. Please do not mistake it as an error. If you do not enter within 7 seconds after tagging it on the fare gate machine, you will not be able to enter.

  • 3. If you are traveling with a child or children under six years old, make sure they are closely in front of you when you pass through the fare gate machine.

    If you have a stroller with you, ask a station staff for assistance to use the side gate to enter.

  • 4. Station staffs can easily know if a passenger is using a discounted or free ticket as a yellow bar appears on the fare gate machine.

    Unauthorized use of a discounted, free ticket or pass will be fined an amount 30 times of the regular fare.
