Reading the Subway Map

The Subway Map has been designed to accurately llustrate the subway network.
The Subway Map is classified into different colors that represent line numbers.
The map allows passengers to locate their desired departure and arrival stations and also provides a full view of the entire subway network

Cyber station

Finding the Destination

All metropolitan subway lines are categorized into different colors to allow all passengers to easily recognize them. In addition, the numbers associated with each line are indicated at the end of each and every line.
First, find the line number of your destination. Then, find the position of the desired station on the map. Finally, check the route on the map, which will take you from the current location to the destination. For example, there are two possible least-transfer routes if you wish to depart from Ttukseom Station on line 2 and arrive at Banghwa Station on line 5.
1st Route : Ttukseom (Line 2) → Transfer at Chungjeongno (Line 5) → Banghwa Station
2nd Route : Ttukseom (Line 2) → Transfer at Yeongdeungpo-gu Office (Line 5) → Banghwa Station

Finding the Destination

    Single Journey Tickets can be purchased using the Ticket Vending and Card Reload evices located 

    in subway stations.

1.     Select a language.

2.     Select Single Journey Ticket (1회용 교통카드) at the screen.

3.     Search and select the destination.

4.     Select the category and the number of passengers.

5.     Insert the payment into the device.

6.     Get your change and the ticket.

 

How to Use Automatic Machines

 

 

   After-paid multiple journey transportation cards can be also recharged at the device.

1.     Put the card at Ticket Vending and Card Reload space.

2.     Choose the amount to add to the card.

3.     Insert the payment into the device

4.     Confirm the amount on the card.

5.     Take the card.

²  The pass fare is 55000won(Basic fare 1,250won × 44times). The pass is valid only for Lines 1~9 (except the section from Bupyeong-gu Office Station to Kkachiul Station on Line 7)

 Commuter subway pass for areas outside Seoul (14 Types)

²  Can be used up to 60 times within 30 days after purchase

²  Fares differs depends on travel distance

   -  The pass fare is 55,000won ~ 102,900won(Regular fare × 44times × 15% discount)

²  The pass can be used only for the subway.  

 The pass cannot be used for the Airport Railroad through Incheon Int'l Airport

 Station to Unseo Station.

 Sinbundang Line - Available from Zone 8 to Zone 14

 U-Line and YonginEverline - Available from Zone 1 to Zone 14.

 Group Pass (more than 20 passengers) Regular (Adult): 20% discount on the regular fare

Teenagers (age 13-19): 30% discount on the regular fare (350won excluded from the discount)

Children (age 6-12): 60% discount on the regular fare (350won excluded from the discount)

*Commuter's Subway Pass Card(2,500 Won) can be purchased at a customer service center.

What types of tickets are available for use

Card-type Tickets

Transit cards are manufactured based on the Radio Frequency (RF) technology and are grouped into two categories, namely prepaid and post-transit card.
Commuter Subway Card can be used 60 times within 30 days after the date of purchase.

Entering the Gate

Please make sure that you know the direction to your destination before you get off the train and pass through the gates in the right direction.
If you are traveling with a transit card, simply tag the card on top of the sensor.
Upon entering the gates to depart at the starting station, the paper-type ticket will Check the direction to which you would like to proceed then pass through the gates in the right direction. For paper-type ticket, insert the ticket into the card slot, for transit card, tag the card on the sensor prior to passing pass through the gates

Getting on the Train Safely

As the train approaches the platform, please take a step back from the safety line.
Please exercise extra caution when boarding the train to prevent your feet from falling into the gap between the platform and the train.
When the train door is about to close, please refrain from forcing yourself into the train and just wait for the next train to arrive.

Transferring to a Different Line

Before boarding the train, check if you need to transfer on a different line. Then check the transfer station and right direction. At the station you can get to the transfer platform by following signs marked as “Transfer”. You do not need to purchase another ticket for transfer on lines 1~9. 

 

* Be aware that there are stations where transfer is not possible with a Single Journey

Ticket. In case of using multiple-journey ticket transfer fare conditions will be same as if transferring to bus.
- Seoul Station (Gyeongui·Jungang Line to/from Line 1, 4)
- Noryangjin Station (Subway Line1 to/from Subway Line 9)

 

* Using transfer gate when transfer to private-owned railway

Private-owned railways are Line 9, Airport Railroad, Sinbundang Line, Everline and U Line.        

By using special transfer gate you will not be charged additional fare when transferring to private-owned lines.
Transfer gate are installed on following stations;
Line 9: Gimpo Int’l Airport Station, Dangsan Station, Yeouido Station, Dongjak Station and Express Bus Terminal Station.
Airport Railroad: Gyeyang Station, Gimpo Int’l Airport Station, Digital Media City Station, Hongik University Station, Gongdeok Station, Seoul Station
Sinbundang Line: Gangnam Station, Yangjae Station, Jeongja Station
Everline: Giheung Station
U Line: Hoeryoung Station

Exiting the Station upon Arrival

Chekc the desired exit or desination from the general information installed in the platform. Check the exit number and the destination and then exit out of the station by relerring to the guide plate

Boarding with bicycle

Seoul Rapid Transit Corporation Bicycles allows bicycles on lines 5~8 at weekend and holiday days.

Bicycles that are no longer, no higher and no wider than 158cm as well as folding bicycles permitted at railcars at all days. However, this rule may be different on other subway lines. If the bicycle does not meet size restrictions and you had boarded with it on a working day you will have to get off from the railcar and the station. Also you will be charged 900won fine.

If you are boarding with bicycle
    1. Bicycles are permitted only at the first and the last railcar of the train.
    2. Riding bicycles inside stations is strictly prohibited.
    3. If there is special facilities for bicycles installed cyclists have to use these facilities.
    4. Bicycles cannot be transported through elevators, escalators and wheelchair lifts.
    5. Be cautious of closing doors of the railcar. Also do not allow your bicycle to i nterfere with passengers when boarding or leaving the train.
    6. Do not do anything what may cause troubles to passengers.
    7. Be careful not to cause any safety accidents.
    8. SMRT assumes no responsibility for lost or damaged bicycles. Cyclists are responsible for injuries to self or other passengers as well as for damage caused.

*Folding bicycles must remain folded all time include when passing through a gate.
*All bicycles must be clean and not have sharp projections.
